Scanning for the Nielsen Indicator

Ratios used in the indicator...

As you know, in most cases, the demand indicator is in sync with the stock price, however there are times when the demand increases quite a lot before any price action occurs. The Inquisitor function within PhoenixAI has many inbuilt scanning criteria to find such anomalies.

Example:

Wouldn’t it be good to find all ordinary shares where the demand has increased over the last 2 days by at least 500% but the price hasn’t moved yet. So as not to get some penny dreadfuls, lets make the stocks we find at least $50M in market capitalisation.

How to do this…

Step 1: In PhoenixAI, open up the Inquisitor Filter by clicking on the inquisitor filter icon.

Step 2: Under the 'TYPE' TAB, select ordinary shares and move it across to

Step 3: Under the 'Fund' tab, select Market Cap and click the little arrow pointing to the right.

Step 4
: In the window that pops up, in the left of the window,  click on 'Greater than >', then type 50 into the blank field. From the drop down box on the right click 'M' for million. Then click 'OK'.

Step 5: Under the NSD TAB, select 'NSD%[DLY](Quantity, All Levels, 2)' and click the small arrow in the middle pointing to the right.

Step 6: In the window that pops up, click 'Equal or above >='.

Step 7: Click the radio button next to 'Indicator <-> Value'.

Step 8: Type in the value '500'.

Step 9: Click 'OK'.

Note: Steps 5 to 9 are very important to understand. What this is saying is the % price rise of the Nielsen Supply Demand Indicator on 'All Levels' (whole market, number of shares) has increased by at least 500% over the last 2 days. There are many variations that you can use.

Step 10: Under the NSD – Price Change TAB, select 'Price Change %[DLY](2)' and click the small arrow in the middle pointing to the right.

Step 11: In the window that pops up, click 'Equal or below <='

Step 12:  Click the radio button next to 'Indicator <-> Value'.

Step 13: Type in the value '0'.

Step 14: Click 'OK'.

Note: Steps 10 to 14 also very important to understand. What this is saying is that the price has not risen above 0% from 2 days ago. ie. it is the same price or has fallen. There are many other variations that you can use.

Step 15: Once this is done click INQUISITOR REPORT and the inquisitor will scan every stock on the ASX looking for the stocks that match the above criteria.

A list of stocks will then be displayed so you can analyse them one by one.

You will find this icon on the top far left hand side of the screen. It has a magnifying glass over the top of a piece of paper with writing on it. Note: Don't confuse this icon with the other inquisitor report icon which is used to generate a report from a saved filter file.

Step 16: To sync a symbol with an open chart, double click on a stock. Alternatively you can

• Right click and select 'synchronise'
• Right click and select 'chart', 'depth', etc.,  to create a new window.
• Drag the stock to an existing chart.

Note: Highlighted stocks are contained in one or more of your saved watch lists.
